Still Spirits Classic American Bourbon Essence

Still Spirits Classic American Bourbon is a bourbon-style spirit essence designed for home distilling and spirit flavouring. Simply add it to a clean neutral spirit or vodka to create a classic American bourbon-style flavour without the need for long barrel ageing.

What It Tastes Like

• Rich and lightly smoky, inspired by traditional barrel-aged bourbons

• Warm oak and charred wood aromas for an authentic bourbon nose

• Subtle vanilla and chocolate notes from oak and char character

• Smooth, balanced finish, suitable for sipping neat or mixing

Oak Ageing (Highly Recommended)

Oak ageing adds the vanilla, caramel and light char notes found in traditional American bourbons.

Use American oak only

Recommended options (per 1.125 L bottle):

• American Oak spiral stick

• Oak chips:  Nobile American oak, or Nobile vanilla oak chips

Toast level:

• Medium toast or light char for classic bourbon character

Age for:

• 2–6 weeks, tasting weekly
  Remove oak when flavour is right to avoid bitterness.

Gentle Oxygen Exposure

Opening the jar briefly once a week allows flavours to integrate and softens alcohol heat, similar to barrel ageing.

Optional Sweetness & Mouthfeel

For a rounder, more commercial-style bourbon finish, you may add one of the following:

• ½–1 teaspoon brown sugar, or

• ¼ teaspoon glycerine per bottle

Adds subtle sweetness and body without turning the spirit into a liqueur.
