Coopers Munich Malt is a base malt made from premium two-row barley and kilned to bring out a rich, malty depth. Here’s what it’s like:

  • Flavour & Aroma: Offers a deep malty, bready, and slightly sweet flavour, with hints of biscuit, honey, and light toffee. Compared to pale malt, it’s richer and more complex.

  • Colour: Typically around 12–15 EBC (5–7 SRM), so it imparts an amber to golden colour depending on usage.

  • Usage:

    • Can be used up to 100% of the grist as a base malt.

    • Commonly used in German lagers (Munich Helles, Dunkel, Märzen, Bock), and in malt-forward ales where depth and body are desired.

    • Often paired with Pilsner malt to add complexity without overwhelming sweetness.

  • Contribution to Beer: Adds body, fullness, and a smooth malt backbone. Great for balancing hop-forward or yeast-driven beers.
