Sugars in brewing can be introduced either as fermentable sugars, or non fermentable sugars. Products like Belgian syrups, Agave and brown rice Syrups, and honey are fermentable but will also add unique flavours and colours to your brew. Lactose is a non fermentable sugar and is usually used in darker beers and stouts as a sweetener.
