One of the most successful methods of filtration is when a liquid that requires filtering is passed through a long column of activated carbon. The longer the column..the cleaner and more refined the end result. For best results the flow rate should be slow. Not all carbons are suitable for filling a filter column, if the carbon granule is too fine and powdery, then the flow rate is halted, or if the carbon granule is too large the flow rate can be too fast.
See below for suitable carbons for filling a column.

FILTER COLUMNS
High density Polyethelene food grade filter column.

1 metre long x 4cm wide filter column (two joined segments), with filling funnel and black end tap to control flow ....$59.00

500mm long budget filter ...as above only half the length of column.....$48.00
good for smaller quantities
(this still gives 500mm of carbon filtering which is approx 5 times longer than some filter cartridges)
