Colmated or pore filled cork

this is a natural cork that has gone through an extra process of filling any pores or holes with cork improving the corks mechanical qualities. The finish is much smoother than natural cork.FDA approved. It is usually a process done with less expensive corks to improve them.

Twin top corks (imported from Portugal)
These are made of a very high quality, large particled composite cork, which is then sandwiched between two high-grade discs of whole cork on each end. These corks are ideal for long term ageing, thanks to their ability to maintain a strong level of force against the neck of the bottle for a long period of time. They are, available in a “long” format, as they’re designed with maximum ageing potential in mind. These corks WILL NOT work at their maximum if used with a hand push in corker. They should preferably be inserted with a floor-corker (though a two handle corker would suffice.)

Polyethelene corks are now used within the commercial wine industry to ensure a longer life and reduce the risk of oxidisation which can occur when using natural corks.
You require a floor model corking tool with jaws or a two handle Italian corker to insert polyethelene corks. A hand corker will not do the job.
